Brabus’ New G63 Cabrio Twins Get Custom Roof, 789 HP And Limited Production

Brabus just pulled the covers off two wild creations: the new 800 Cabrio and 800 XL Cabrio. Both start life as Mercedes-AMG G63s, but the big headline is the highly complex retractable soft top. Brabus says the mechanism uses more than 500 custom components, and the two-piece roof can open or close in about 20 seconds with a button press.

To make the conversion work, Brabus reinforced the windshield frame and added a carbon-fiber bow to help the roof hold its shape at higher speeds. There’s also a rear roll bar and a cover that protects the soft top when it stays folded for long periods.

The regular Brabus 800 Cabrio gets a custom tailgate, a Widestar widebody kit, and massive 24-inch Monoblock ZM wheels wrapped in Hankook Ventus S1 Evo ZX tires. Sport springs drop the ride height by 20–40 mm. Inside, you’ll find a full Brabus leather cabin, carbon-fiber paddle shifters, an Airscarf system, plenty of carbon trim, and, of course, Brabus branding.

Power comes from the tuned twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, delivering 789 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. With the nine-speed automatic and four-wheel drive, the 800 Cabrio hits 0–62 mph in 4.0 seconds and tops out at 149 mph.

The 800 XL Cabrio is built for a different mission. It swaps the lowered suspension for a portal-axle setup that jacks ground clearance up to a huge 18.9 inches. It rides on smaller 22-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. Performance takes a slight hit: 0-62 mph comes in 4.6 seconds, and top speed drops to 130 mph.

Production will be limited to 50 units of each version. Pricing for the 800 Cabrio starts around $877,350 (€761,500). The off-road-focused 800 XL is priced at roughly $1 million (€887,600), though the final price depends on options and how wild you go.
