Alpina’s Spirit Lives On in This Stunning Zagato Coupe

Alpina is no longer part of BMW, but the people behind it are still building cars. The Bovensiepen Zagato shows what comes next.
Named after Andreas Bovensiepen, it is the first model from the new company. However, it stays close to its roots. Under the hood, it uses a BMW M4, but the changes are extensive. Over 400 new parts go into the build, including full carbon body panels, and the process takes more than 250 hours.

Zagato reworks the front end from scratch, so the car reads very differently at first glance. The shape brings in some i8-like cues, especially in the hood and the way the rear quarters flow into the back. The double-bubble roof immediately stands out as the main Zagato signature, while the branding itself remains subtle, with small badges on the front fenders.

Inside, it sticks with the 4-Series layout. The dashboard, screens, and controls are all familiar. What changes is the finish. You get options like full Lavalina leather, more detailed stitching, and a wider range of colors and trims. The materials feel richer, but the structure of the cabin stays the same.

It uses the M4 Competition as a base, along with its eight-speed automatic. Power goes up from 523 hp to 602 hp, helped by a titanium Akrapovic exhaust. The Bovensiepen Zagato reaches 62 mph in 3.3 seconds.

Exclusivity is part of the draw. Just 99 cars will come out of the former Alpina facility in Buchloe. Orders are open, and the configurator is live, though for most people, this stays in daydream territory. The design does a lot of the convincing, if the €369,495 ($435,000) price does not stop you first.
In a way, it carries the same spirit forward, just under a new name.
