BMW Preps All-Electric 3 Series Sedan—Could The Wagon Be Next For U.S. Roads?
by AutoExpert | 2 May, 2025
BMW's next-gen 3 Series is on the way, and this time, it’ll come in an all-electric version. BMW says the sedan will drop right after the debut of the iX3 SUV in September. And it looks like they’re not stopping there—they’re also planning to launch a 3 Series wagon shortly after.
BMW’s design boss, Adrian van Hooydonk, is excited about the wagon's return. He mentioned that cars like the M3 Touring and M5 Touring are gaining popularity, even in places where wagons aren't typically a hit. He sees a "new wind" in this segment, which sounds pretty promising.

While we’ve only seen the sedan so far, there’s talk of a wagon variant for the U.S., especially with the demand for the M5 Touring in the States. BMW hasn’t officially confirmed anything yet, but given the interest, it seems likely.

However, BMW isn’t all about SUVs. Although SUVs have become a significant part of the brand, wagons, sedans, and coupes continue to hold their position, accounting for about half of their sales. What remains unclear is how this new wagon fits into the brand’s push toward electrification. Rumors are flying that BMW might even revive the i3 name for this new electric model.

The big question is: Will we see the 3 Series wagon here in the U.S.? That’s still up in the air.
