BMW M850i Edition M Heritage 2026 Honors The Iconic E31 8 Series

BMW knows how to do a proper farewell. The G15 8 Series is heading into retirement, but before it leaves, BMW has rolled out the 2026 M850i Edition M Heritage.
At Pebble Beach, BMW gave the 8 Series a proper send-off with the Edition M Heritage. Instead of recreating the old two-door coupe, they went with the Gran Coupe body. It’s bigger, more practical, and carries a stronger road presence, while still paying tribute to the ’90s original with its classic colors.

The headline act is the paint. BMW raided the archives and revived five classic colors from the E31 era: Bright Red, Mauritius Blue, Cosmos Black, Oxford Green, and Daytona Violet. Each shade feels like a throwback, but paired with today’s sharper design language, they pop in a whole new way.

The cars also come with an M carbon roof wearing the brand’s tricolor stripes, 20-inch Orbit Grey alloys, and the M Sport Professional package. The package adds smoked headlights, black calipers, and darker trim—subtle tweaks that tie the retro paintwork to the car’s modern silhouette.

Inside, the Edition M Heritage is unapologetically plush. Alcantara wraps just about everything: dashboard, door panels, and even the headliner. The M Sport seats mix Alcantara with Merino leather in a diamond-stitch pattern, while tri-color stitching and edition-specific plaques remind you this isn’t just another Gran Coupe.

A Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround system comes standard, along with nearly every tech and comfort feature BMW offers. In other words, this isn’t just a collector’s edition — it’s the 8 Series at its most fully loaded.

Mechanically, nothing has changed, and that’s a good thing. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 still pushes out 523 horsepower and 533 lb-ft of torque. With xDrive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic, the car hits 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

Pricing starts at $130,400, at about $21,000 more than a standard M850i Gran Coupe. BMW is building just 500 examples for select markets, including the US, with production kicking off in November and deliveries set for early 2026.
