In the world of automobiles, First Editions are synonymous with exclusivity, often enticing enthusiasts with irresistible options and the allure of being among the first to own. BMW, no stranger to this trend, followed suit with the M8 Gran Coupe and now, the latest 5-Series.

But hold your horses – unless you're in Japan, this BMW 5-Series First Edition remains tantalizingly out of reach. For those lucky enough to be in the Japanese market, the First Edition offers a choice of mineral white or black sapphire exteriors, coupled with striking 20-inch star-spoke M alloy wheels. The package doesn't end there; it also includes a state-of-the-art Harmon Kardon sound system and the standard M Sport beauty kit.

Adding to its charm, BMW incorporates the Iconic Glow illuminated kidney grille surround and interior tops in a sophisticated mix of Veganza and Alcantara synthetic leather. Interestingly, despite the dwindling relevance of diesel, BMW Japan opts for a diesel-powered 523 xDrive version in this edition. It's equipped with a 2.0-liter, inline-four turbodiesel and all-wheel drive, but other options aren't off the table – from the gasoline-powered 523i to the electric i5, all available with the First Edition perks.

Pricing details released by BMW indicate that the diesel version is tagged at around 63,660 USD. Surprisingly, this puts the high-end diesel model in Japan almost on par with the cost of a 540i xDrive in the U.S., which is priced at $64,900.

The First Edition is available for sale starting today, with production scheduled through February. Those who manage to secure one of these exclusive models can expect their deliveries to commence at the beginning of 2024.
