Land Rover's current model line-up is expanding at a rapid pace. The Defender is the British manufacturer's heavy-duty off-road vehicle, and a three-row variant could be joining the lineup soon. If you long for a more carefree era, we've got an exciting new alternative for you. Meet the Black Bridge Motors' Function SUV, which was created and manufactured by a company that prides itself on being rooted in the past but engineered for the future.

In reality, Function is more of a brand than a particular vehicle, under which the Norwalk, Connecticut-based company is introducing a heavily modified version of the original Defender that hides Jeep Wrangler bones behind the skin. We'll get to the technical details in a minute, but first, let's look at the project's broad concept.

Black Bridge Motors' Function
The firm's objective is to develop vehicles with a timeless design that honors timeless classics while combining historical appearance with new technologies for "best-in-class drivability," according to the company. The focus will be on the most crucial aspect of a vehicle: to build "machines that no one has ever produced so you can drive like no one has ever driven."

Black Bridge Motors' Function

In comparison to a stock Defender, Black Bridge Motors' Function in the attached gallery rides on a Jeep Wrangler JK frame, which is six inches longer and gives additional capacity for passengers in the second row of seats. The function produces its vehicles entirely by hand and offers a vast number of cosmetic and interior customization possibilities. The SUV's body is built of aluminum.

A 6.2-liter LS3 GM-sourced motor producing 430-hp (316 kW) is standard, paired to a six-speed automated transmission. If you need more power, there's a supercharged LT4 with 650-hp (478 kW) and an eight-speed automatic transmission. A 24-month/50,000-mile warranty is included with both powertrain options. The base price for Black Bridge Motors' Function is $144,950, but it doesn't include any options.
