Audi A5 PHEV Is A Hybrid That Doesn’t Compromise On Performance
by AutoExpert | 28 March, 2025
The Audi A5 plug-in hybrids are here, and they’re offering a solid balance between efficiency and performance, all while packing that signature Quattro power. These electrified variants stick with the trusty turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but they’re now spicing things up with a hybrid twist.
The base A5 e-hybrid pushes out 295 horsepower, but if you’re craving a little more muscle, the beefier version cranks up the performance to 362 hp, matching the S5's V6 power. The quicker variant can hit 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.1 seconds, just a hair behind the S5’s 4.5-second time.

That’s pretty impressive considering the PHEV’s hybrid setup, though it’s likely carrying some extra weight from the added battery pack. Speaking of which, Audi’s new 20.7 kWh lithium-ion battery delivers a solid electric range of 72.1 miles, though the weight of the battery might make the wagon version slightly less efficient. When running solely on electric, the cars can top out at 87 mph.

When the gas engine kicks in, you're free to push it all the way to 155 mph. Charging-wise, you’re looking at about 2.5 hours to fully juice up the battery with an 11 kW AC charger.

The fun doesn't stop here. Audi's teasing an even more powerful plug-in hybrid down the line, possibly for the upcoming RS4. They’ve been talking about an electrified version for years, and with the RS5 already being tested, we could see that debut later this year or in 2026.

If you’re into performance with a green twist, Audi's making sure you don’t have to choose between the two.
