Mitsubishi Added a Hybrid Outlander, but the MPG Gains Are Tiny
by AutoExpert | 24 April, 2026
Mitsubishi talked up a new hybrid setup for the 2026 Outlander last year. Now it’s here, and it’s a bit different from what you’d expect.
First of all, the old 2.5-liter is gone. In comes a smaller 1.5-liter turbo with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It makes 174 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. So power dips a little, and torque goes up. Around town, it should feel smooth and maybe a bit quicker off the line.

Then you check the fuel numbers. 26 city, 31 highway, 28 combined. That’s barely an improvement. For something called a hybrid, it doesn’t really stand out.
At least the price didn’t jump much. The base model goes up by $350, which is whatever. The destination fee is higher, though, so in reality you’re paying about $600 more.

There’s a new LE trim too. It’s more about value than flash. You get 20-inch black wheels, fog lights, heated mirrors, and rain-sensing wipers. Inside, it’s a bit nicer with faux leather, a power seat, wireless charging, and adaptive cruise. Good stuff for everyday use.

The lineup changes a bit too. Platinum is gone, and in its place you get a few themed versions. Ralliart leans sporty, Trail goes for a tougher look, and the Black Edition sits at the top with darker styling and nicer leather inside.

Fresh engine, a bit more efficiency, and some new versions. That’s pretty much the story here.
