2025 Honda Prelude Returns With Hybrid Power And Type R Suspension Tech
by AutoExpert | 24 July, 2025
The 2025 Honda Prelude is finally making a comeback later this year, and while it won’t carry that iconic Type R badge, there’s still plenty to get excited about.
This time around, Honda’s giving the Prelude something special: the dual-axis front suspension. It’s a fancy bit of engineering that helps reduce torque steer and improve handling, and until now, it was only found on hardcore Type R models. Add in the Civic Type R’s Brembo front brakes and wider front and rear tracks, and it’s clear the Prelude is built to handle!

Now, Honda is being upfront about one thing: the new Prelude won’t be the wildest or most aggressive coupe on the block. However, what it lacks in raw edge, it makes up for with good old-fashioned driving fun. You don’t need crazy horsepower to enjoy yourself, and Honda knows that.

Power comes from a hybrid setup pulled from the Civic: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine working with a pair of electric motors. Together, they deliver around 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. There are whispers that Honda might squeeze a bit more power out of it before launch, and if that happens, the Prelude could become a solid rival to the Toyota GR86.

The GR86 might have a bit more muscle with its 228 hp boxer engine, but the Prelude’s instant electric torque could give it a different kind of thrill. The only real bummer is that Honda’s not offering a manual gearbox. We’re still waiting on official power figures and pricing, but considering the Civic Hybrid starts at $30,100, the 2025 Honda Prelude is expected to land in the low $30,000s as well.
