Mitsubishi has officially launched the plug-in hybrid Outlander after multiple teasers and a design preview, delivering more performance, tech, elegance, and safety than its predecessor, as well as a significantly expanded electric range. Here's all you have to know about the forthcomig 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander.

According to the WLTC cycle, the battery has a capacity of 20 kW and can provide an all-electric distance of up to 54 miles (87 km). This is more than double the WLTP all-electric range of its forerunner, which was 24 miles (39 km) with a smaller 13.8 kWh battery pack.

Mitsubishi has yet to release the new-generation PHEV system's actual power and torque figures, as well as the gasoline engine type. In any event, the manufacturer claims that the front and rear electric engines have a 40% greater output.

Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Eco, and Power are among the 7 drive modes available to the driver, each of which optimizes the PHEV engine for maximum acceleration. Because of the regenerative braking mechanism, one-pedal driving is also available.

Another significant improvement is the new Active Yaw Control (AYC) torque vectoring system for the rear wheels, which works in tandem with the improved Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) to manage power distribution in both axles.

With regards to the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV's appearance, the Japanese automaker has already shown us renderings of both the exterior and interior, which are nearly identical to the conventional Outlander. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 9-inch infotainment touchscreen remain on the dashboard, but with new visuals for the plug-in hybrid powertrain. Due to the ingenious packing of the plug-in hybrid technology, the SUV preserves all three rows of seats.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) are now part of the MI-PILOT driver assistance system, which automatically adjusts the vehicle speed based on traffic conditions or data from the navigation system. Mitsubishi will reveal Outlander PHEV cost and trim levels for the North American market closer to the vehicle's arrival, which is set for the second half of 2022, as previously reported.
