Honda and GM have been working closely since 2013 trying to create a common process of developing a next-generation of fuel cell systems and hydrogen storage facilities. Both companies involved their own development staff and shared their fuel cell intellectual property, so they can produce a better and, of course, a cheaper solution.
These two companies announced on the 31st of January that their collaboration regarding the first manufacturing joint venture to create a large fuel cell system is now official.

The new plant is going to be located in Michigan, called Fuel Cell System Manufacturing. After 2020, it is expected that around 100 jobs will be offered thanks to this new plant.

Both companies will invest an amount of around $85 million. The final fuel cell system will be used for models of GM, as well as Honda.

The board of directors consists of three executives from each company and the president is going to be elected in a rotating method.

According to Toshiaki Mikoshiba, the CEO of Honda North America, this collaboration is going to make each company successful, working as a team of course. They have the chance to become one of the best in the mass production of a fuel cell system in the future.

Mark Reuss, the GM executive VP of Global Product Development stated that these two great leaders in fuel cell innovation will be able to develop further fuel cells and, in this way, the passenger vehicles will end up with a totally new technology.
