13 is Mazda’s lucky number, as it has just unveiled its 5-stage plan of technology development by 2030. There 13 models planned for launch from 2022 to 2025, and electrification to a certain degree for most of the models by 2030.

The five stages are: accumulating technological assets for high-efficiency production, promoting electrified products, promoting safety technologies for a society with no accidents, developing connected technologies, and carbon neutrality revolving around a human-centered philosophy.

Let’s see what these stages are all about:
Stage number 1 revolves around the basic elements of a car. Mazda will keep on working on its internal combustion engines, based on the SKYACTIV platform. The straight-six keeps on being on Mazda’s agenda but integrated with the SKYACTIV Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture that will enable Mazda to use more and more electrification on all of its longitudinal or transverse engine-bearing cars. By 2025, this architecture will be used on variously-sized models.

On this occasion, Mazda showed off its freshly available RWD and AWD platform for the upcoming Mazda 6 and a large-diesel or large-gasoline crossover. Both models will run on a 48v mild-hybrid system and a plug-in hybrid large-gasoline engine. The

The next phase involves the launch of five plug-in hybrids and three electric cars between 2022 and 2030. All this is part of Mazda’s Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030 strategy, with the models dedicated mainly to the European, American, ASEAN, and Japanese markets. According to the carmaker, all of its model range will be 100% electrified by 2030, while EVs will cover 25% of its entire production.

The third phase focuses on Mazda Co-Pilot Concept. This system will be monitoring the drivers and enable autonomous driving if any change in the driver’s physical state has been noticed. The technology is set to be launched in 2022.

The fourth phase regards the software’s upgrades that will allow the car to have over-the-air updates. Standardized communication and connected services is another target Mazda intends to reach through its recently signed standard engineering agreement with another four Japanese OEMs. This way, cars, and devices will be able to connect faster and stress-free, for an Electronic/Electric architecture of the new generation.

The final stage goes beyond car making and focuses on the planet, humanity, and society. Mazda tends to create special bonds with the customers by offering high-quality driving experiences.
