Surprise! New Yorkers Not in Top 3 for Road Rage

You might guess that New York, with all its honking taxis and bustling streets, would top the charts for road rage, right? Well, buckle up, because the results from a recent study are in, and they're going to knock your socks off—New Yorkers are actually some of the calmest drivers in the country!

This eye-opener comes from a study done by H&P Law, a personal injury law firm out of Nevada. They crunched numbers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a nonprofit called the Trace, which keeps an eye on gun violence. Their findings? They considered everything from road shootings to aggressive driving that leads to accidents or even fatalities. And guess what? Fatal crashes and gun-related road rage weighed heavily in their analysis.

Road Rage

Turns out, New York ranks as the fifth most zen-like state behind the wheel. It's a reminder not to judge the whole state by the hectic pace of New York City alone. Outside the city limits, things are a lot more mellow, which probably surprises a lot of us.

Here’s a quick lowdown on the stats: New York made it to the top five for having minimal road rage incidents involving firearms and deadly accidents caused by aggressive driving. In fact, aggressive driving played a role in 37.4% of accidents statewide, and the state saw just over two fatal accidents per 100,000 residents due to aggressive maneuvers. Speeding? Almost unheard of, with a mere 0.5 violations per 100,000 people.

Road Rage

Curious about who else is keeping their cool? Here are the top ten chill states when it comes to driving:

  1. Rhode Island
  2. California
  3. Virginia
  4. New Hampshire
  5. New York
  6. Massachusetts
  7. Washington
  8. Wyoming
  9. South Dakota
  10. Iowa

Road Rage

On the flip side, here’s where drivers might be a bit more... let’s say, spirited:

  1. Louisiana
  2. New Mexico
  3. Montana
  4. Arkansas
  5. Colorado
  6. North Carolina
  7. Delaware
  8. Florida
  9. Wisconsin
  10. Tennessee

Road Rage

So next time you hear someone rant about New York drivers, you’ve got some cool facts to set the record straight. It turns out, when it comes to keeping calm and carrying on, New Yorkers might just lead the way!
