Porsche Reliability: Ranks #4 But Has Second-Highest Repair Costs in the Industry
by AutoExpert | 11 November, 2025
Porsche's been making sports cars since the '30s and Consumer Reports has been around since 1936, but somehow they never really paid much attention to each other until now. For 2025, CR finally tested some Porsches properly.
They looked at four models—Macan, Cayenne, 718 Boxster, and the Taycan. All four got the thumbs up, which put Porsche at No. 4 out of 32 brands. Sounds awesome, right? Well, hold on—when something actually breaks on a Porsche, you're gonna need a second mortgage to fix it. They ranked second-to-last for repair costs. CR's advice is pretty blunt: want a luxury car without going broke? Skip the German stuff.

The SUVs Are... Fine
The regular gas Macan did best out of Porsche's SUVs. Not the fancy new electric one, the old-school version. Reliability-wise, it's totally average compared to everything else. Out of 22 luxury compact SUVs, it came in fifth—stuck between an Acura RDX and a Lexus NX. At least it's the best German option in that bunch, and nobody's recalled it yet.
Cayenne landed seventh out of 13 in its class. Other German SUVs like the Q8 and X5 actually beat it. Oh, and there's already a recall for a fuel leak, which is never great.

The Sports Cars Aren't Blowing Anyone Away Either
Boxster and Taycan basically tied for reliability. Both just okay. The Cayman probably would've scored the same, but CR didn't even bother testing it fully—they just copied the Boxster's score since it's basically the same car with a hardtop.
Boxster came in fifth behind the Miata, Supra, Z4, and Corvette. Only beat the Nissan Z. Cayman's tenth out of 14, losing to a Mustang and a Civic Si, which has gotta sting a little.

The Taycan's packed with all this incredible German tech, but reliability? Still just average. BMW i4 and Lexus ES are more reliable if that's what you're after. At least it beat the Tesla Model 3 and a bunch of other EVs.

So What's the Verdict?
Porsches won't leave you on the side of the road any more than anything else, but when the bill comes, you're gonna feel it. They're amazing to drive and score well overall, just don't expect cheap maintenance. If that matters to you, maybe look elsewhere.
