Michelin vs. Uniroyal: The Tire Satisfaction Report Is Out
by AutoExpert | 23 January, 2026
Buying tires is one of those boring grown-up chores that nobody enjoys. It costs a lot, it feels confusing, and once they’re on the car, most people are just hoping they did not make a bad choice.
That is where Consumer Reports comes in. They did not just test tires in a lab, they asked real drivers how happy they were after living with them. Across all that feedback, one brand kept landing at the bottom of the pile: Uniroyal.

For all-season tires, Uniroyal scored the lowest on customer satisfaction. Its winter and snow tires did just as badly, with drivers reporting that the experience simply was not great overall. Other budget names showed up in the red zone too, including Sumitomo, Kelly, Dunlop, Hercules, GT Radial, and even BFGoodrich in the winter category.
Sumitomo had an especially rough showing. It sat at or near the bottom in almost every category Consumer Reports looked at: all-season, summer, winter, and all-terrain. On paper, the low price looks attractive. On the road, a lot of drivers clearly felt it was not worth it.

On the flip side, Michelin came out looking like the safe bet. It was the only brand to earn consistently high satisfaction scores in all four tire categories. Vredestein also did well, scoring strong marks across the board, especially for all-terrain tires.

So the pattern is pretty simple. Cheaper tires might feel like a win at checkout. For many drivers, that feeling disappears fast once the miles start adding up.
