Genesis Reliability Ranked: Why the Luxury Brand Still Lands on the Shaky Side of CR Data
by AutoExpert | 26 November, 2025
Genesis cars look great, feel expensive, and cost a lot less than the usual luxury names — which is exactly why so many shoppers are tempted. But the brand is still relatively young, and that always raises the same question: Will these things hold up, or will they start acting up a few years in?
According to Consumer Reports’ 2025 reliability data, Genesis still lands on the shaky side of the spectrum. The brand finished 14th out of 22, which puts it closer to the bottom than to reliability champs like Subaru, Lexus, Toyota, and Honda.

The survey covered the GV80, GV70, GV60, and G70.
The trend isn’t moving in the right direction
On the surface, climbing from 18th place last year to 14th looks like progress. But Consumer Reports notes that Genesis actually scored better a year ago — so the higher ranking doesn’t really mean the cars improved.
Here’s where things stand now:

GV80: Still the solid one. It scored “average,” and CR actually recommends it.
GV60: Also “average,” which is decent for a newer EV.

GV70: Below average this year.
G70: The problem child — lowest reliability score in the lineup.
Common trouble spots CR highlights include electronics glitches and drivetrain issues like rear differential problems.

Genesis cars offer a lot of luxury for the money, but long-term reliability isn’t their strong suit yet. The GV80 and GV60 are the safest bets. The others? Buyer discretion advised — especially if dependability is at the top of your list.
