Famous Voices in Car Commercials: John Cena, Jon Hamm, Chris Pine, and Other Celebrity Narrators
by AutoExpert | 4 December, 2025
Car ads love a famous face — but plenty of automakers have quietly borrowed famous voices, too. The narrator you hear in a slick SUV spot or a dramatic truck ad might actually be someone you’ve seen in a blockbuster movie or a hit TV series.
Here are some of the most recognizable names who’ve been talking to America from behind the wheel — without ever showing their faces. But first... here are some good Hollywood faces in car commercials!
Honda: John Cena’s unmistakable voice
John Cena has been the official voice of Honda since 2020, which explains why Honda ads suddenly started sounding like a pep talk from a WWE champ.
He’s a legit car guy — his first big paycheck went straight into an ’89 Jeep Wrangler — and he’s big on Honda performance. If a Honda commercial feels extra rugged or pumped-up, that’s probably Cena narrating.
Mercedes-Benz: Jon Hamm’s long-running gig
For 15 years, Jon Hamm was the voice of Mercedes-Benz. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect — he’d just become Don Draper on Mad Men, basically the patron saint of advertising.
His smooth, confident delivery sold everything from clean-diesel S-Class sedans to wild AMG hypercars. One memorable spot didn’t even say the word “Mercedes.” It didn’t need to — Hamm simply said, “You know what we make.” And he was right.
BMW: Chris Pine, space hero turned EV narrator
BMW turned to Chris Pine to voice several of its ads, especially for its futuristic electric lineup.
One 2022 BMW iX commercial plays almost like sci-fi poetry — fitting, since BMW also hired film composer Hans Zimmer to create the car’s artificial EV sounds. If it feels dreamy or cinematic, that’s Pine doing what Pine does best.
Hyundai: Paul Rudd keeps it friendly
Hyundai has used several big names over the years, but Paul Rudd got his start with the brand back in 2014.
His first gig: narrating a campaign for the Hyundai Sonata’s driver-assist features. Even though he appeared only at the end, the tone — warm, funny, slightly sarcastic — was unmistakably Paul Rudd before he became Marvel’s Ant-Man.
Ford Trucks: Denis Leary’s decade of attitude
Few voices fit Ford’s truck ads better than Denis Leary’s.
Starting in 2008, Leary delivered the kind of loud, unapologetic voiceovers that matched the F-Series’ “built tough” identity.
He roasted engineers, made fun of hippies, bragged about towing numbers — and somehow made it all sound iconic. For over a decade, his voice was Ford Trucks, until the brand moved on in 2019.
Car commercials might be short, but they’re full of familiar voices. Next time you hear a dramatic monologue about torque, towing, or electric dreams, listen closely — Hollywood might be riding shotgun.
