BMW's motorcycle-building division isn't just thinking extra-big. They plan to build an extra-big motorcycle and just for comparison it could be as big as a Smart car.  Soon, the German automaker will unveil a pair of jumbo-sized motorcycles based on the R18 cruiser. You won't believe it but BMW is actually aiming at Harley-Davidson's biggest models.

According to the patent information, partially reveals the R18's jumbo-sized siblings. Patented as  R18 B and R18 Transcontinental, the big- motorcycles would have and 1.8-liter flat-twin engine. This one will be the most powerful BMW boxer to date when it made its debut in early 2020. The B stands for "bagger," standing for a type of big, road-trip-ready motorcycle, while Transcontinental is self-explanatory.

The R18 B -the one in the pictures - will receive a pair of hard cases symmetrically mounted on either side of the rear wheel. The Transcontinental comes with a taller windshield and a third hard case, among other add-ons. Both R18 B and Transcontinental will be visually bigger than the R18.  Patent documents also specified the dimensions of the motorcycle. So, the B will stretch 100.7 inches long, the span between 36.6 inches and 38.1 inches wide, weighing around 880 pounds. The second one - Transcontinental - will considerably heavier, with a weight of up to 950 pounds and bigger measures with nearly 104 inches long and tip the scale at about 950 pounds. Try and imagine it next to Smart ForTwo measuring about a 98.4-inch footprint.

These days even riders can enjoy a wide touchscreen look-alike and an instrument cluster made up of four individual gauges. Also, the speakers will be embedded into the front fairing which suggests that the air-cooled engine won't be making the only sound the XL R18s emit. BMW made changes to both R18s and riders will get 91 horsepower and up to 159 Newton-meters of torque. There's also an increase in the range due to the bigger fuel tank riding range will increase thanks to a bigger fuel tank. The transformations include chassis modifications and a steeper fork angle will ensure better high-speed stability during the long rides.

BMW hasn't confirmed yet when will be the official unveiling of these gorgeous big motorcycles, there's hope for a global debut in the coming months. The should exceed the R18, which had a starting price of $18,190.
