2022 Morgan 3 Wheeler Was Confirmed In Testing Shot In A Roll Cage

If you want a second-generation revival retro-styled roadster, a 2022 Morgan 3 Wheeler is your best choice. The last photos surprised the automaker testing its substantially reconstructed second-generation version. This time the lightweight 3 Wheeler roadster, is the one to wind down production of the current car this year.

The exclusive photos previously obtained by Autocar show a prototype being put through its paces, as we get a first look at how the Malvern manufacturer will update the diminutive 3 Wheeler. Surprisingly, it's still similar in its concept and design to the Morgan Super Sports launched back in 1933.

The car got the front-mounted V-twin engine removed. because a 1998cc motorcycle-derived 82bhp air-cooled engine supplied by American manufacturer S&S wouldn't comply with emissions regulations in 2021. still, no details were revealed about the replacement. The new engine's output should continue to drive the rear wheel exclusively and outperform the previous one keeping the retro-style alive.

It took two and a half years since the idea of a pure-electric version of the 3 Wheeler surfaced, mentioning problems with its powertrain supplier. Morgan managed to sustain the EV's development capabilities by bringing "additional specialist resource in-house" but there are still doubts if this second-generation car could spawn a zero-emission variant.

Despite not having any details about the engine elements it can be confirmed that the next-gen 3 Wheeler's powerplant will be housed in the bodyshell itself. It should be larger than the current two-cylinder unit and, there's a real chance for 2021 3 Wheeler to be sourced from a third-party manufacturer.

3 Wheeler will be the brand's smallest model with the engine relocated. There will be a more streamlined front end, exposed front enclosed rear wheel within the tail of the car. Remember that the roll cage pictured here is for testing purposes and won't make production. The 3 Wheeler's chassis has its front track visibly widened, while the vented brake discs at the front have been substantially upsized, resulting in a power increase for the 3 Wheeler.

We'll get to meet the 3 Wheeler in the full body at the end of this year, just before the international market launch in 2022.
