BMW Alpina Prepares A New 7-Series Flagship With V8 Power And Maybach Ambitions
by AutoExpert | 3 November, 2026
Alpina is getting ready to show what its future looks like under BMW ownership, and its first major project is likely to be the most luxurious 7-Series yet. The company has released a teaser of a new sedan, giving us an early look at a model expected to arrive in 2027.
The image is deliberately blurry, but two details stand out: a low-slung body and split LED headlights. Spy photographers have already caught camouflaged prototypes testing, confirming that this is an Alpina version of the updated BMW 7-Series.

BMW appears to be taking a different approach with the revived brand. While M focuses on sharp handling and outright performance, Alpina will combine strong engines with a more relaxed, luxurious driving experience. Its cars are expected to sit above regular BMW models, targeting buyers who might otherwise consider a Mercedes-Maybach.
The new sedan should have enough visual differences to justify its own badge. Expect amber daytime running lights, a redesigned front bumper, a larger splitter, and a different kidney grille pattern. Unique alloy wheels, Alpina emblems, and the familiar oval-shaped quad exhaust outlets should also make an appearance.
The bigger question is what's under the hood. A V8 seems likely, especially after prototypes were heard during track testing. The previous 760i xDrive offers a possible starting point, with its mild-hybrid 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 536 hp. An all-electric version could also be part of the plan, potentially using the 670-hp dual-motor setup from the BMW i7 M70.

Beyond power, Alpina is expected to bring its own suspension tuning, upgraded interior materials, and a wider range of personalization options. The idea is to make the 7-Series feel more exclusive without turning it into a completely different car.
The new sedan should debut in the coming weeks, ahead of its 2027 market launch. A similarly upgraded X7 is expected to follow. Pricing remains a mystery, but the new Alpina flagship will sit well above the standard 7-Series.
