Tesla Wants the Cybertruck to Tilt Itself So You Can Load Heavy Gear More Easily

Pickup trucks have one annoying weakness: getting heavy stuff into the bed can be a real pain. Tesla seems to have noticed and is working on a solution that could make the Cybertruck do some of the work itself.
A recently published patent describes a feature called "ramp mode." Instead of relying on a long loading ramp, the Cybertruck would change its ride height to create a much easier path into the bed. The front suspension rises while the rear drops, giving the truck a forward-leaning stance.

Tesla's example involves raising the front by 80 mm (3.1 inches) and lowering the rear by 70 mm (2.8 inches). That adjustment could reduce the ramp angle from 45–55 degrees to around 20–30 degrees. For someone loading a motorcycle or ATV, that could make a big difference.
Drivers could activate the system through the truck's touchscreen or a smartphone. Tesla also wants to make sure the feature stays safe. The truck would remain in Park, apply its parking brake, and block gear changes while ramp mode is active. Sensors could prevent adjustments if the vehicle is on unsuitable ground.
The Tesla Cybertruck ramp mode patent describes two other suspension settings. Dump mode would lower the entire truck, making it easier to reach items in the bed. Leveling mode could keep the Cybertruck flat on uneven ground, which might come in handy at a campsite.

Interestingly, this isn't Tesla's first attempt at adjustable suspension technology. The company filed a similar patent back in 2019, suggesting the idea has been on its radar for years.
There's one important detail, though. A patent only shows what a company is considering, not what it plans to sell. Tesla hasn't confirmed that ramp mode will reach production.
