With Rear-Mounted Kawasaki Motor, A Toyota IQ Was Transformed Into A GR Yaris Mini-Me

Toyota's GR Yaris has been hugely popular among car enthusiasts, so it's no surprise that the Japanese hot hatch is being sought after by tuners. This Toyota iQ conversion by a Japanese tuner for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022 is out of the ordinary. It features a GR Yaris facelift and a Kawasaki engine positioned at the back.

One of the technicians who worked on the project shared photos of the insane construction on Twitter. Even though it appears to be a render, it is a genuine automobile that, based on the description, must be rather quick.

Things began with Toyota iQ, a four-seater Smart ForTwo competitor that also gave birth to the Scion iQ and the notorious Aston Martin Cygnet. The tuner was able to include lighting units from the GR Yaris on both ends, as well as modified bumpers, side sills, and fenders that resembled the genuine, a carbon-fiber bulged bonnet, and a pretty subtle rear spoiler.

Lastly, at the back axle, there is a new set of white wheels with much bigger tires. A pair of racing bucket seats, a three-spoke momo steering wheel, a unique instrument cluster, and a boxy screen located on the center console, most likely for telemetry data, can all be found on the inside. Most crucially, the rear seats have been removed to make place for a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R engine, which is one of the world's quickest bikes.

In factory configuration, the 1,441 cc four-cylinder 16-valve engine generates 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS) and 154 Nm (113 lb-ft) of torque. The bike's six-speed sequential transmission sends power to the rear axle. Toyota IQ's small weight, high-revving motor, and short wheelbase will all add to thrilling ride quality.
