Toyota Put Snow Tracks on Five of Its Toughest SUVs and Trucks — But You Can’t Buy Them
by AutoExpert | 29 October, 2026
Toyota apparently looked at five of its SUVs and pickups and thought, “You know what these need? Snow tracks.” The result is the Snowhunter concept family, a collection of machines built to tackle winter terrain that would leave an ordinary SUV searching for a snowplow. Unveiled ahead of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the lineup includes the Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia. Sadly, Toyota has no plans to sell them, so anyone hoping to drive home in a factory-built snow crawler is out of luck.
Created at Toyota's CALTY Design Research facility in Michigan, the five concepts get much more than tracks instead of regular wheels. They wear white paint with grey geometric graphics and carry enough outdoor equipment to make a weekend camping trip look like an expedition to the North Pole.

The Tundra Snowhunter might be the most practical of the bunch. Alongside its tracks, it features Toyota's TrailLift Pro Rack System, which adds storage to the bed and an adjustable rack for loading bikes, kayaks, and other bulky gear. That could prove useful even when the snow melts. Toyota, take notes: this one deserves a place in the accessories catalogue.

The Sequoia gets aluminum running boards, a TRD front skid plate, a Prinsu roof rack, and a Thule cargo box. The Land Cruiser follows a similar recipe, adding ski storage, rock rails, and skid plates for extra protection when the trail gets rough.
Meanwhile, the Tacoma is built for narrower winter routes, with a roof rack, full-length bed rack, awning, storage compartments, lighting, and recovery equipment. The 4Runner rounds out the group with roof rails, another Prinsu rack, and a Thule cargo box.

All five look ready for a serious winter adventure. Snowhunters, we'd love to see it in action.
