This Armored BMW 7 Series Can Stop Handgun Rounds Without Looking Like a Tank

Want a luxury sedan that can take a bullet without looking like a tank? BMW has something for you. Meet the Concept 7 Protection, an armored 7 Series built for people who need extra security without making a big fuss about it.
From the outside, you'd hardly notice anything different. It looks like a regular 7 Series, with no bulky armor or action-movie styling. That's exactly what BMW wants. The car targets business leaders and private customers who prefer to keep a low profile. Better yet, BMW claims it handles much like the standard sedan, despite the extra protection.

Underneath, things get serious. The Concept 7 Protection packs bullet-resistant glass, reinforced doors made from ballistic steel and composites, and extra armor beneath the panoramic roof. There's also an attack alarm and an intercom system. built to resist common handgun rounds, including 9 mm and .44 Magnum ammunition, not the heavier weapons that BMW's beefier Protection models can handle.

Inside, it's still business class on wheels. Think Smoke White Merino leather, Alcantara trim, powered sunblinds, and a digital rear-view mirror. There's even a fold-down rear console with a table and cool box, which will reach the regular 7 Series lineup in 2027. Not bad for a rolling safe.

Power comes from the M760e xDrive's plug-in hybrid setup, pairing a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with an electric motor. Together, they pump out 603 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. BMW hasn't confirmed production yet, but the concept hints at what's coming. After all, who says staying safe has to mean driving an armored brick?
