UK-Based Conversion Specialists Produce Citroen DS Electromod

Electrogenic, a British EV conversion company, has unveiled what it claims is the world's first professionally converted electric Citroen DS. The Oxfordshire-based company has replaced the original 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with its own “Hyper9” electric engine, which is linked with a 48.5kWh battery with a capacity of roughly 140 miles (226 km).

A max. charging rate of 29 kW enables a 2-hour charge time. Clients can also order a battery with a range of more than 200 miles (322 km) as an alternative. The engine delivers 120 hp and 173 lb-ft of torque, which is a significant increase over the initial engine's power. Original manual transmission sends power to the front wheels.

The DS's iconic self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension system has also been improved by Electrogenic, which has replaced the factory mechanical pump with a quiet electric one.
Ian Newstead, the director of Electrogenic, said: "The old pump was so loud that it interfered with the car's quiet operation, but our new electric pump fully eliminated the problem.”

Citroen DS' appearance is mostly intact, with the charging port hidden by the original petrol filling cap. The absence of the exhaust pipes and a custom "DS EV Électronique" badge on the boot lid are the only visual cues.
Electrogenic specializes in custom electric vehicle conversions, having previously converted the Triumph Stag and Morgan 4/4. Customers can bring their classic car or ask that the company find one for them, with costs adjusted to each demand.

“With our conversions, we constantly strive to improve the car's original characteristics,” says Steve Drummond, one of the company's co-founders.  The Citroen DS was made for electric conversion: the car's quiet powertrain contributes to the relaxing driving experience and fits in well with the car's character.”
