Ever wondered what a fusion of Japanese reliability and American muscle car charm would look like? Mitsuoka, famous for its out-of-the-box automotive creations, has unveiled the M55 Concept - a Honda Civic turned Dodge Challenger impersonator.

This project celebrates Mitsuoka's 55th anniversary and pushes the boundaries of car restyling.

The Inspiration: Muscle Cars Meet Japanese Engineering

The M55 Concept draws from the golden age of muscle cars in the ’70s, a period that coincides with Mitsuoka's establishment in 1968. The transformation of the 11th-generation Honda Civic Hatch into a Dodge Challenger lookalike was no small feat.

The designers had to work around the Civic's 5-door hatchback frame, not your typical base for a muscle car replica.

A Fusion of Design Elements

The M55 Concept retains the Honda Civic Hatchback's profile, including the stock greenhouse and roofline. However, the design team added a twist of American flair by extending the front and rear overhangs and fitting sporty alloy wheels with striking white lettering.

The front end is where the Challenger inspiration shines. The quad round headlights, grille, bumper, and hood mimic the Challenger's iconic look. At the rear, Mustang-style louvers, an integrated spoiler, and custom taillights complete the transformation.

Interior and Performance: A Blend of Old and New

Inside, the M55 Concept largely mirrors the Civic but with a retro touch. Blue leather upholstery and a vintage-style Mitsuoka badge on the steering wheel add a classic feel, complementing the Civic's minimalistic dashboard that hosts modern tech like a 10.25-inch infotainment screen.

Performance-wise, the M55 sticks to its Civic roots. The turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, good for 180 hp, is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox, maintaining the Civic's front-wheel drive setup. It's a far cry from the V8 power of a true Challenger but brings its own unique charm.

A Concept, Not Yet Reality

Sadly for those dreaming of owning this unique blend of American muscle and Japanese engineering, the M55 Concept remains just that - a concept. However, the Mitsuoka Azabu Showroom in Tokyo will display this innovative creation from November 24 to December 16, offering enthusiasts a glimpse into what could have been.

A Tribute to Automotive Creativity

The M55 Concept by Mitsuoka is more than just a car; it's a celebration of imagination, bridging the gap between two distinct automotive worlds. It's a tribute to the spirit of innovation that drives the auto industry forward.
