Mitsuoka Viewt Story Gives Toyota Yaris A Retro Jaguar Twist

Mitsuoka, a Japanese label best known for outfitting iconic, retro-styled Japanese models, has released a new Viewt. The new Toyota Yaris serves as the basis for the new Mitsuoka Viewt Story.

The Mitsuoka Viewt, which has been around since 1993, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. While it's the first generation to use a platform other than Nissan's in 30 years, the fourth generation continues the eccentric look of its forerunners, which was influenced by the Jaguar Mark 2 of 1963.

The new Mitsuoka Viewt Story's prominent face with its closely spaced round headlights, chrome bumpers, and Jaguar-style grille is likely to be well received by the model's loyal customer base. The retro-styled hood and front fenders are separated by chrome trim that continues on into the doors. Outside of the massive front overhang that completely alters the supermini's dimensions, the Yaris's profile and greenhouse are maintained.

In addition, Mitsuoka included a brand new pair of 14-inch steelies with chrome infusion and a special colour scheme. A Mitsuoka emblem was attached to the steering wheel, and the inside was reupholstered in light-colored trim on the seats, dashboard, and doors to match the exterior's vintage vibe.

The TNGA-B architecture and powertrain options are the same as those found in the Japanese domestic market Yaris. This means that drivers can choose between a 1.0-liter or 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, as well as a 1.5-liter hybrid option, which is the most fuel-efficient choice. The vehicle can be configured with either a 2WD or 4WD  drivetrain and comes with either a six-speed manual, a continuously variable transmission, or an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, depending on the chosen powertrain.

The starting price for the Mitsuoka Viewt Story is ¥3,008,000 ($22,295) for the base model with a 1.0-liter engine and 2WD manual transmission. The price increases to ¥4,202,000 ($31,145) for the top-end hybrid model.
