Exhaust systems for mild-hybrid, self-charging, and plug-in hybrid vehicles are now available from UK-based Milltek Sport, a player in the dynamic hybrid industry that aims to enhance the sound experience. At low engine speeds, Milltek Sport wants to reduce noise to a minimum, especially during the transition from electric to gasoline.

Yeah, you heard it correctly. When it comes to hybrid cars, the tuner says you have to be particularly careful with the heat from nearby batteries.

“We don’t want the crossover between electric and ICE power to be any more prominent than it is, so we increased the focus on designing our exhausts to sound better under higher load situations and be more subtle lower in the rev range,“ said Milltek Sport Managing Director Steve Pound.

He added that “while a performance exhaust is traditionally louder than a factory system, it’s not just about adding noise but ensuring a more distinctive, sportier sound. With our hybrid applications, customers continue to experience the benefits of localised, electrified driving while enjoying a more engaging experience on the open road.”

The Ford Puma ST and the Cupra Formentor are the first electric vehicles to get a Milltek Sport exhaust. The Puma ST has a mild-hybrid 1.0 EcoBoost engine, while the Formentor has a 1.4 TSi e-Hybrid powertrain. The Range Rover Sport P460e Hybrid is next on the agenda, and work is underway on its exhaust system.

You can hear the new exhaust in a demo video of the Ford Puma, which is now the best-selling vehicle in the UK. In addition to being constructed from highly durable aircraft-grade stainless steel, the exhaust system offered by Milltek Sport has bigger twin tailpipes.

The exhaust system applications in conventional ICE-powered vehicles are still Milltek Sport's bread and butter, according to the company. The tuner does, however, concede that there is a growing "appetite for hybrid vehicles" in the United Kingdom.
