Liberty Walk's LB40 AZ-1: A Kei Car Transformed

Liberty Walk takes a bold departure from the norm with its latest creation for the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, the LB Works LB40 AZ-1. This unique project transforms Autozam's '90s kei car into a whimsical homage to the iconic Ferrari F40.

Intended as a miniature version of Liberty Walk's Ferrari F40 showcased last year, the LB40 AZ-1 features distinctive white livery, sponsor decals, and enhanced aerodynamics.

While the Autozam AZ-1 inherently possesses sporty attributes with its mid-engined layout and gullwing doors, Liberty Walk's modifications are extensive. Redesigning the majority of body panels, only the doors, greenhouse, roof, and upper rear deck remain from the original.

The front design stands out with a clamshell hood and F40 LM-inspired headlights, but the rear, featuring boxy fender extensions, an iconic F40 wing, and quirky taillights, gives it a somewhat comical appearance. Completing the look are new 16-inch front and 17-inch rear forged alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo tires.

The Autozam AZ-1, born in 1992 and styled by Mazda, houses a mid-mounted turbocharged 657cc powertrain from Suzuki, delivering 63 hp. Originally known as the Suzuki Cara, this LB Works kit is likely compatible with that version as well. The F40-inspired FRP body kit carries a price tag of $22,660, excluding lighting units, and the forged wheels add an additional $14,300, making this kei car a unique and somewhat expensive venture.
