Is Audi’s Electric TT Successor in Trouble? Here’s What We Know
by AutoExpert | 18 February, 2026
There has been a lot of chatter lately about whether the electric Porsche 718 Cayman and Porsche 718 Boxster are still on track. With changing regulations and a market that is not fully sold on electric sports cars yet, Porsche has reportedly been taking a hard look at the timing.
That raised questions about the future of the production version of the Audi Concept C, which is meant to be a modern successor to the iconic Audi TT.

The concern makes sense because Audi’s upcoming electric sports car is expected to share key tech with the 718 EV. If Porsche pulled the plug, Audi could have been left scrambling. But earlier this month, an Audi spokesperson confirmed the project is still alive. Now Audi CEO Gernot Döllner has reassured employees in an internal letter that Porsche will deliver the platform as planned and that collaboration between the two brands remains strong ahead of a targeted 2027 launch.

According to reports, the car is known internally as the C Sport. It will ride on a heavily modified version of the Premium Platform Electric architecture and measure about 171 inches long. Interestingly, its battery will not sit under the floor like most EVs. Instead, the pack is positioned behind the seats. That layout keeps the weight balance closer to a mid-engine sports car, preserving the sharp handling feel associated with the 718.

Design also plays a big role here. Audi’s new design chief, Massimo Frascella, led the Concept C project. While the proportions clearly preview a low-slung sports car, its styling language is expected to influence future Audi models across the lineup. The same goes for the interior, which takes a more minimal approach to screens and technology.

If you ask us, we'd say this is a critical car for Audi. The TT left a gap in the brand’s lineup, and an electric sports car that actually feels engaging could help fill it. The real challenge will be convincing buyers that an EV can still deliver the emotion people expect from a compact performance coupe. If Audi and Porsche get the balance right, this could be one of the more interesting electric launches of the decade.
