Fiat Multipla Could Return As A Wild Minivan-Pickup Before 2030

Remember the Fiat Multipla? That oddball family car with a face only its designer could love? Well, Fiat might bring it back, and this time, it’s going wild with the idea. The Multiplay concept turned heads at the 2026 Paris Motor Show with a mix of minivans, SUVs, and pickup trucks.
Fiat first called it a design experiment, but now a production version could arrive before the end of the decade.

Fiat CEO Arnaud Belloni says the brand needs a proper family car, and the Multipla name still rings a bell. He also has a personal reason to like minivans. After buying an SUV like everyone else, he found the cabin disappointing. His point is simple: SUVs aren’t the only game in town. Fiat wants a family car with plenty of space that still looks tough enough to win over SUV fans.

The Fiat Multiplay concept measures 4.45 meters long and has six seats across three rows, plus an extra spot for a pet. But here’s the cool bit: the back of the roof and the third row slide forward, turning the minivan into a four-seat pickup with a split tailgate. The question is whether Fiat will keep it for the production model.

Fiat needs buyers to like the idea, and the team knows that bold designs can be a hit or a total flop. The original Multipla was clever inside, but its looks split opinion right down the middle. Fiat also needs to keep costs down, so the new model could share parts and underpinnings with the upcoming Grizzly SUVs from the Stellantis family. That might mean a simpler cabin and possibly no pickup bed.

So, don’t rush to the Fiat dealer just yet. The design boss says a production version is at least two to three years away, even if the company gets moving fast. Nothing is set in stone, but Fiat seems serious about finding something new beyond the SUV craze.
