Chevy Built Just 15 of These Corvette Convertibles — And They’re Only for Japan

Fancy a rare Corvette? Here’s the catch: you’ll have to look to Japan, and even then, your odds aren’t great. Chevrolet is building just 15 examples of this special-edition drop-top.
Called the C8 Corvette V8 Tourer, it brings unique styling and a more luxurious interior to the familiar American sports car. Sounds pretty sweet, right?

The V8 Tourer sticks with the 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, pumping out 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. That’s about 40 hp less than the new US-spec Corvette, but Japan’s version makes up for it with looks. Red Mist Metallic paint, silver racing stripes, and a sporty spoiler give this drop-top plenty of swagger.

There are more details to set it apart. The C8 Corvette gets a red engine cover, black brake calipers, and five-spoke forged aluminum wheels finished in nickel. Inside, tan leather is paired with black upholstery, while GT2 bucket seats and special badges give the cabin a more distinctive feel. The color combination adds a touch of old-school grand touring style, making the V8 Tourer look different from the usual Corvette.

Chevrolet Japan will sell just 15 cars, each priced at 21.5 million yen, or roughly $136,000. That’s about $12,000 more than a regular C8 convertible in Japan. For collectors, the tiny production run may be the biggest attraction.
For everyone else, there’s a question: would you pay extra for a special badge and exclusive colors when the American version gets more power?
