Mercedes GLE and GLE Coupe will receive a facelift soon, but the carmaker isn't abandoning the older models completely. Contrary to popular belief, new mild-hybrid technology has been added to Mercedes GLE 300d 4MATIC model line.

The engine under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbodiesel making 268 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Gliding, boosting, and recovery functions are all included in the starting generator. An additional 20 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque are provided by the turbocharger's boost function.

With this set-up, the improved Mercedes GLE 300d models can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 6.8 secs and reach a max speed of 143 mph (230 km/h) with ease. Moreover, the GLE 300 d 4MATIC burns much less fuel in the WLTP combined cycle, consuming between 7.5 and 6.1 L/100 km (31-39 mpg-US). Similarly, the coupe uses 7.1-6.5 liters each 100 km (33-36 mpg-US).

A Torque on Demand transfer case with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch has been added to the crossovers in addition to the revised powerplant. In comparison to the previous 50:50 fixed ratio, this alteration allows for power distribution of 0-100 % across the axles. This should assist with dynamics, particularly in corners.

The revised Mercedes GLE 300d cars are now on order and will begin shipping to European showrooms next month, according to the manufacturer. The GLE begins at €75,053.30, while the GLE Coupe costs €79,182.60.
