Modena Automobili has breathed new life into the Maserati Biturbo with a fierce restomod, revamping the rare Shamal for the modern age. Starting with a 1983 Biturbo coupe, the Maserati Biturbo Shamal Restomod keeps its roots while embracing bold updates.

The prototype preserves the Biturbo’s distinctive shape, including its iconic flared fenders and that peculiar windshield spoiler. However, the prototype has abandoned some Gandini trademarks, such as the angled rear wheel arches.

The new front fascia features a lowered grille, enlarged air intakes, and a sleek splitter, all paired with LED headlights that flow into a redesigned hood, complete with dual vents as a nod to the Shamal heritage.

The rear end keeps the classic quad exhaust motif, framed by an aggressive diffuser, while new taillights and a swooping spoiler—angled downward to meet fresh bodywork—give this restomod a wider, taller stance.

Lightweight carbon fiber, reinforced with steel, forms most of the body updates, balancing strength and agility. Inside, while images haven’t surfaced, the retro spirit will live on with a digital instrument cluster, retaining the Shamal’s signature oval design, and new Recaro seats—pending Recaro’s post-bankruptcy availability.

This revitalized Biturbo is powered by a modern twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 from the Ghibli, which has been boosted to deliver an exhilarating 500 horsepower.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Ghibli-sourced ZF eight-speed automatic, driveshaft, and differential. For handling, Brembo brakes are installed with 13.5-inch front and 13-inch rear discs complemented by retuned springs and struts. A new rear subframe and 18-inch wheels complete the upgrades, ensuring this Maserati is prepared for any challenge.

Modena Automobili will craft 33 of these Maserati Biturbo masterpieces, each starting at $638,000. After the prototype refinement concludes in spring 2025, Modena Automobili expects to begin production, ushering in a new chapter for this Italian icon.
