Patent Images Reveal Chery's New Ford Maverick Rival

Chery could soon have a rival for the Ford Maverick. Patent images first published by Cars.co.za and later picked up by CarExpert appear to preview the brand's upcoming compact pickup. Based on those filings, the team at Carscoops created a rendering of what the production model could look like. If the truck makes it to showrooms, it will compete in the growing lifestyle pickup segment.
Chery hasn't officially confirmed the project, but the South African patent filings reveal a unibody dual-cab pickup with crossover roots. An SUV version is also expected under the Tiggo nameplate for markets including China, South America, South Africa, and parts of the Asia-Pacific region.

The styling is clean and modern. A full-width light bar and large CHERY badge stand out at the front, while the sides feature hidden rear door handles, chunky wheel arches, and a compact cargo bed. Around the back, there's another full-width light bar and a simple upright tailgate.

Although the cabin hasn't been revealed yet, a large freestanding infotainment display and digital instrument cluster will likely be standard, alongside wireless smartphone connectivity, over-the-air updates, wireless charging, and premium materials.
Heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a panoramic glass roof are also expected. Rather than chasing maximum payload, the compact bed is likely to focus on everyday versatility, with folding seats and a pass-through for carrying longer items.

Under the skin, the pickup is expected to ride on Chery's T1X unibody platform with independent rear suspension for more car-like handling. Engine choices could include a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a newer 2.0-liter turbo producing 208 hp.
A plug-in hybrid version using Chery's Super Hybrid (CSH) system is also expected, pairing a 1.5-liter turbo engine with an electric motor and battery for up to 56 miles of electric driving. Front- and all-wheel drive should both be offered, along with Vehicle-to-Load capability.

The new pickup is expected to sit below the recently renamed Stockman midsize truck, taking on models like the Fiat Toro, Chevrolet Montana, Ram Rampage, Volkswagen Tukan, and Toyota's rumored Corolla Cross-based ute.
Chery hasn't announced a launch date, but with patent filings already in the open, a debut within the next year wouldn't be surprising.
