The Next BMW X6 Could Be More X5 Than Ever
by AutoExpert | 7 July, 2026
The new X5 is here, but its coupe-shaped sibling is still missing. With BMW staying quiet about the X6, digital artist Theophilus Chin has filled in the blanks with his own Neue Klasse-inspired design.
The timing makes sense. The current X6 has been around since 2019 and received its facelift in early 2023, so a replacement can't be too far away if BMW decides to keep the model alive. The X6 itself dates back to 2008 and helped turn coupe-SUVs into a real segment. A new generation could arrive around 2027.

Up front, the rendered X6 closely follows the new X5, but with a lower and sportier stance. That's hardly surprising, as the two models usually share much of their bodywork up to the B-pillars. From there, the roof drops sharply toward the rear and appears to create a slightly longer overhang, giving the X6 its familiar coupe-like shape.

The rear takes some inspiration from the smaller X2, including its sharp body lines. The taillights have been reworked with newer LED graphics, though a production X6 would likely use longer lighting units similar to the latest i3, iX3, and X5.
Inside, expect the new X5's cabin to carry over with only small changes. The same could apply to the powertrains, including mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, electric versions, and possibly a twin-turbo V8 for a performance model.

BMW has already confirmed the X4 won't get another generation, with the X2 effectively taking its place. The X6 is a different story, but the lack of test cars leaves its future uncertain for now. After creating the coupe-SUV trend in the first place, would BMW really walk away from the X6?
