BMW has just introduced the X5 Protection VR6, its latest take on an armored SUV designed with VIPs in mind. At first glance, the BMW X5 Protection VR6 might look like your regular X5, but it's packing some serious security features, including armored steel and bulletproof glass.

The specialists reinforced key parts like the doors, side frame, roof, and bulkhead with high-strength steel. To cover all bases, they've extended the armor protection underneath the vehicle as well. BMW has even gone the extra mile with a self-sealing fuel tank that's got a special casing to fend off bullets.

This armored BMW X5 Protection VR6 has some unique touches too. On the outside, you've got discreet flashing LED lights tucked into the grille, at the rear, and up on the roof for added visibility. The roof-mounted light beacons are there to make sure you're noticed.

Step into the cabin, and you're met with the familiar luxury of the X5. There's the BMW Curved Display, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a sizable 14.9-inch infotainment display. Those sport seats, decked out in premium Merino leather, provide a cozy spot to settle in. Of course, there's also an intercom system to keep communication seamless.

Under the hood, we've got BMW's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 at work, backed up by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This setup produces a solid 530 horsepower and a whopping 553 lb-ft of torque. To keep things steady on the road, BMW also included adaptive M suspension, an M Sport differential, and active roll stabilization.

If you're after a blend of luxury and security, BMW X5 Protection VR6 might just be the ride you've been waiting for. For those interested, the armored X5 is set to start hitting the streets in February 2024. But before that, it's making its grand entrance at the IAA Mobility show in Munich this September.
