This Half-Million-Dollar Audi Restomod Comes With a Guest List

The Audi Sport Quattro is coming back, just nowhere near an Audi factory. Homologation Specials Reimagined, or HSR, has revealed the Type 859, a carbon-bodied restomod that takes the famous rally shape and fills it with modern RS3 power. The result looks ready to cause trouble.
HSR starts with an Audi Coupe B2 donor chassis and cuts 12.6 inches from its overall length. The wheelbase is then stretched slightly, moving the front axle 0.4 inch forward and the rear axle 0.4 inch back to improve high-speed stability. A roll cage is built into the structure, and carbon-fiber body panels help keep the weight around 2,645 lbs.

Under the hood sits Audi's 2.5-liter turbocharged DAZA five-cylinder from the previous RS3. HSR rebuilds it with forged internals and a motorsport dry-sump system, allowing drivers to select between 500 and 600 hp. The engine is also mounted longitudinally and connected to a reinforced OB4 six-speed manual gearbox. A Torsen center differential sends power to all four wheels with a 40:60 rear-biased split.

HSR also claims the Audi Sport Quattro Type 859 uses an active exhaust that can dump gases from outlets on either side of the car instead of the rear. Oddly, the AI-generated renderings on the company's own site appear to show something different. Either way, the finished car should make considerably more noise.

Only 84 examples will be built, a nod to Audi's 1984 World Rally Championship victory with the Quattro A2. Prices start at roughly $570,822, and simply having the money isn't enough. Buyers have to apply for a build slot, with HSR already reporting strong interest from the US, Germany, and Switzerland. Apparently, even a half-million-dollar Audi restomod needs a guest list.
