The 2026 Toyota Hilux Modellista Is More Premium Than Most People Expect

Toyota’s new ninth-generation Hilux has finally landed in Japan. By now, the redesigned body, updated cabin, and revised chassis are all familiar territory. What is new, though, is the surprisingly extensive lineup of factory-backed accessories buyers can bolt on straight from the showroom.
Modellista handles the more lifestyle-focused side of things. Toyota describes the look as “urban rugged,” which basically translates to extra black trim everywhere, including the hood, headlights, tailgate, and bumpers.

There are also integrated LED accents, underbody protection, a sculpted hard tonneau cover, and matte olive 18-inch wheels that honestly suit the truck pretty well. Some of the accessories are more playful too, including a Modellista cushion that doubles as a tote bag because apparently pickup owners contain multitudes.

Then there’s the GR Parts catalog, which takes a more performance-inspired approach. Buyers can add a black honeycomb grille, red or black GR mudflaps, stainless-steel dual exhaust tips, and aerodynamic window visors. More interestingly, Toyota also offers Performance Dampers and Door Stabilizers designed to reduce vibrations and sharpen steering feel. It’s not quite a GR Sport model yet, but it does hint at where Toyota might eventually take the Hilux.

Japanese buyers only get one powertrain choice: a 2.8-liter turbodiesel paired with a six-speed automatic and part-time four-wheel drive. Unlike other markets, there’s no gasoline engine, no hybrid option, and no EV variant. Japan also skips the single-cab and low-rider versions available elsewhere, limiting the lineup to a generously equipped dual-cab configuration.

Pricing starts at ¥4,980,800 ($31,200) for the standard Z trim and rises to ¥5,500,000 ($34,500) for the tougher-looking Z Adventure.
