While Others Go Electric, De Tomaso P900 Goes V12

De Tomaso has finally confirmed what will sit at the heart of its P900, and it is not going electric, not going hybrid, and not playing it safe. Instead, the company has teamed up with ItalTecnica to develop a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V12 built purely for track use.
This is not a mild engine by any measure. Specifically, it runs a 65-degree V layout, uses an eight-stage dry sump system, and is packed with serious hardware like a billet aluminum crankcase, forged rods, and ultra-light pistons.

Each bank gets dual overhead cams and four titanium valves per cylinder. There is also a carbon fiber intake, and the whole unit weighs under 200 kg. For a big V12, that is impressive.
Output stands at 888 horsepower at around 9,500 rpm, with the redline set just above that at 10,200 rpm. Power goes only to the rear wheels through a sequential Xtrac gearbox. No all-wheel-drive tricks. No electric boost. Just the engine, gearbox, and rear tires.

Interestingly, this was not the original plan. When the P900 was first shown in 2022, it was supposed to use a Capricorn-built V12 that revved to 12,300 rpm. De Tomaso says the change happened as the automotive world shifted rapidly around it.

While many brands are chasing electrification, De Tomaso decided to double down on character instead. The goal was clear. Build an engine with identity, one that delivers instant response and a sound that matters as much as the numbers.
They even referenced the era of Formula 1 V12 engines, when the noise itself was part of the spectacle. That is the feeling they are chasing here.

The company has not yet confirmed a launch date, but it has promised visual and aerodynamic updates to the P900 later this year. With only 18 cars planned, those customers are waiting for something special. From the sound of it, they are going to get exactly that.
