Volga Is Back… But It’s Not Starting From Scratch
by AutoExpert | 6 April, 2026
Volga is a name many people in Russia grew up with. Big sedans are simple and tough, often seen as taxis or government cars. Then it went quiet for years. Now it’s trying to come back, but not quite in the way you might expect.
This reboot is less about building something new from scratch and more about borrowing what already exists.

The first model is the K50, an SUV teased earlier this year. Underneath, and honestly on the outside too, it is basically a Geely Monjaro: same shape, same details, same overall look. The only real change is the grille with a Volga badge. Everything else feels like it came straight from the original car.
Under the hood, it is expected to use a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 238 hp, paired with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Solid setup, just not exactly unique.

Then there is the C50, which goes back to Volga’s roots as a sedan. This one is based on the Geely Preface, and again, the changes are minimal. New badge, slightly tweaked front, and that is about it. The design itself is clean and easy to like, even if it feels familiar, somewhere between a Passat and an Accord.
Inside, it sticks very close to the Geely as well. Same steering wheel, same digital cluster, same vertical infotainment screen. No real attempt to reinvent anything here.

Engine options include a 2.0-liter turbo four with either 150 hp or 200 hp, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Both models will be built at the old Volkswagen factory in Nizhny Novgorod, which used to produce Skoda and VW cars before everything changed.
