Some Toyota Dealers Are Charging Over $15,000 Extra for a RAV4 Hybrid

With average gas prices in the United States climbing to $4.51 per gallon and topping $6.15 in California, it’s no surprise that more buyers are looking at fuel-efficient options like the new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.
The problem is that some dealers seem to have noticed that demand and are taking full advantage of it.

We’ve seen this before with models like the Land Cruiser, Tacoma, and even the Camry, but now the 2026 RAV4 is getting the same treatment. One of the most extreme examples comes from Toyota of Greensboro, which has added a $15,435 dealer adjustment to a RAV4 XLE Premium. That pushes the price from an already hefty $40,934 to $56,369 before a $799 administrative fee is even added.

Other dealers are doing much the same. Magnussen’s Toyota of Palo Alto appears to be adding a $3,999 markup to every RAV4 Hybrid in stock, while many of its RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid models carry a staggering $12,995 premium. Over in Florida, West Kendall Toyota lists a RAV4 Woodland Plug-in Hybrid with a final price of $66,503, including a markup of more than $15,700.

The frustrating part is that none of this is necessary. Plenty of Toyota dealers are still selling at MSRP, which means a bit of extra searching can save buyers thousands of dollars. When a practical family SUV starts creeping toward luxury-car money, it’s probably worth looking elsewhere.
