Toyota Land Cruiser Turns 75 With a Rare Edition Limited to Just 75 SUVs

The Toyota Land Cruiser has been around for 75 years, and Toyota Germany is celebrating with a special edition limited to just 75 cars. It’s based on the Land Cruiser 250, gets retro round headlights, and comes with extra off-road kit. Sadly, it’s only available in Germany for now, and it costs a pretty penny.
The round headlights give it a classic look, similar to the Land Cruiser 1958 sold in the US. But Toyota hasn’t stopped at looks. This version gets a system that disconnects the front stabilizer bar, helping the wheels move over rough ground, plus cameras that show what’s around and underneath the SUV. That should come in handy when the trail gets rocky.

Buyers can get the anniversary model in Smoky Blue, a new color made for this edition, along with white, bronze, black, and other shades. Each car also comes with special badges and a few extras, including a tiny Tomica Land Cruiser, a handmade keychain, a commemorative sign, and a book about the model’s history. Not a bad little birthday bundle.

Under the hood, the German model uses a 2.8-liter turbodiesel with mild-hybrid assistance, making 202 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That’s quite different from the US version, which gets a 326-hp 2.4-liter hybrid. Both have an eight-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive.

Now for the price. The special edition starts at €84,750, around $95,100, while the more luxurious Lounge version costs €91,990. That’s a lot for a birthday present, even one wearing a Land Cruiser badge. Toyota hasn’t said if the US will get its own 75th Anniversary Edition, so American fans will have to wait and see.
