Tesla Roadster Delayed Again As Elon Musk Pushes Demo To Late April
by AutoExpert | 19 March, 2026
The Tesla Roadster (second generation) has been delayed again. This time it is not a huge shift, just a few weeks past the previous April 1 demo date. Still, at this point, even small delays feel familiar.
Elon Musk confirmed the change on X, saying the unveil will “probably” happen in late April. That might not sound like much, but this car has already missed targets in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and even a vague “late 2025.” The timeline has stretched so much that it almost feels unreal now.

What makes it more interesting is the bigger picture. Tesla has been pitching the Roadster as the ultimate driver’s car, something built to show EVs can outperform anything with an engine. At the same time, the company is pushing hard toward a future where people do not drive at all.
Projects like the Tesla Cybercab lean fully into autonomy, even flirting with the idea of removing the steering wheel altogether. So you end up with this strange split. One car is all about the driving feel; the other is about removing the driver completely.
At this point, the Roadster almost feels like it belongs to an earlier version of Tesla’s vision. Musk still says it will be something special when it arrives, but after this many delays, it is hard not to wonder when, or even if, it will finally show up in a form people can actually buy.
