Tesla Brings Back the 7-Seat Model Y in the UK… but There’s a Catch

Tesla is widening the Model Y’s appeal again, this time bringing back the seven-seat layout in the UK.
Price lands at £54,490 ($68,500), which includes two extra seats folded into the boot. That’s a £2,500 ($3,100) bump over the standard version, pretty much in line with the $2,500 upcharge in the US. The catch is you only get those extra seats with the Long Range All-Wheel Drive model, and that already costs about £10,000 ($12,500) more than the base single-motor version.

At least performance is not an issue. The dual-motor setup still does 0–60 mph (97 km/h) in about 4.6 seconds, which feels slightly ridiculous for something carrying seven people and a week’s worth of snacks.
Range is where things get a bit fuzzy. Tesla lists both five- and seven-seat versions at 391 miles (630 km) WLTP. Some UK sources say the extra seats drop that to 372 miles (599 km). Either way, it is still strong for a seven-seat EV.
Space is decent, with a few compromises. With all seven seats up, you can still fit a couple of carry-on suitcases, plus there is the frunk for smaller stuff. Fold the third row down, and it goes back to being properly practical.
The third row itself, though, is clearly designed for kids. Tesla even hints at that. No Isofix points back there, but you do get USB-C ports and cupholders, so at least the small passengers will not complain too much.
