VinFast’s Second-Generation VF 8 Looks Sharper And Costs Less
by AutoExpert | 22 May, 2026
VinFast is taking a slightly unusual approach with the second-generation VF 8. Most new generations grow larger, more powerful, and more expensive. This one goes in almost the opposite direction.
Unveiled in Vietnam five years after the original Pininfarina-designed model, the new VF 8 is smaller, less powerful, and fitted with a smaller battery pack. Yet in some ways, it also feels more focused. The styling alone makes that obvious.

The front end looks dramatically sharper than before, with aggressive V-shaped LED lighting, a gloss-black grille panel, and a face that feels more futuristic than premium. Around the back, the same light signature helps tie the design together.

Inside, the cabin also embraces a cleaner, more minimalist layout. Physical controls have been reduced even further, while a new digital instrument cluster joins a smaller 12.9-inch infotainment display.
Standard equipment still looks generous, though, including dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker audio system, and a full suite of driver assistance tech.

The bigger surprise sits underneath. The new VF 8 uses a single front-mounted electric motor producing 228 hp and a 60.13 kWh battery pack. VinFast claims up to 311 miles of range on the optimistic NEDC cycle, but compared to the previous VF 8 with up to 402 hp and an 87.7 kWh battery, this is clearly a step toward efficiency and affordability rather than outright performance.

Pricing in Vietnam starts at roughly $37,900, slightly undercutting the old model. Whether this second-generation VF 8 will reach export markets remains unclear. That question matters because the original car struggled badly in the United States, where fewer than 1,500 units were sold last year.

Even so, VinFast continues pushing forward globally, posting nearly 197,000 deliveries in 2025 and pressing ahead with plans for U.S. production in North Carolina by 2028.
