Nissan Launches Hybrid-Only Kicks In Japan With New Rock Creek Edition
by AutoExpert | 17 June, 2026
Japanese buyers are finally getting the second-generation Kicks, nearly two years after it debuted in North America. Unlike the US model, which uses a gasoline engine, the Japanese Kicks launches as a hybrid-only offering. Nissan is also adding a new Rock Creek version that gives the small SUV a tougher, more outdoorsy look.
Power comes from Nissan's latest e-Power hybrid system. A 1.4-liter three-cylinder engine acts as a generator, supplying electricity to the battery and motors rather than driving the wheels directly. Front-wheel-drive versions produce 141 hp, while AWD models add a rear motor with 67 hp. Nissan says the new setup is more than 10 percent more efficient than before.

Visually, the Japanese Kicks look almost identical to those sold in North America. There are a few market-specific details, including unique colors such as Resonance Blue. Inside, buyers get dual 12.3-inch displays, while higher trims add features like Zero Gravity seats, vegan leather upholstery, a 100V power outlet, and Nissan's ProPilot driver-assistance system.

The biggest surprise is the arrival of the Kicks Rock Creek. Developed by Nissan Motorsports & Customize, it features silver grille accents, Lava Red trim, skid-plate-style details, special alloy wheels, waterproof seat upholstery, and red stitching throughout the cabin. It's largely a styling package, but it gives the crossover a tougher attitude.

Pricing in Japan starts at ¥2,999,700 ($18,700) and climbs to ¥4,248,200 ($26,500) for the top AWD model. The Rock Creek is expected to cost between ¥4,000,000 and ¥4,300,000 ($25,000-$26,800) when it arrives later this year. Spy shots from the US suggest the Rock Creek could soon reach more markets.
