Nobody Expected The 2027 Genesis GV90 To Keep This Concept Car Feature

Luxury SUVs usually try to impress with larger screens, softer leather, or an additional row of ambient lighting. Genesis seems to have taken a different route. Its upcoming GV90 is bringing back one of the coolest details in the luxury world: rear-hinged coach doors. It's the kind of feature that makes people stop, even before they've seen the rest of the car.

When Genesis unveiled the Neolun Concept in 2024, those doors felt like one of those ideas that would quietly disappear before production. Surprisingly, they survived.

Genesis Europe boss Peter Kronschnabl has confirmed the GV90 will keep them, describing the design as one of the SUV's standout features. Spy shots have also shown prototypes with conventional doors, so there's a good chance the coach-door setup will be reserved for higher-spec versions.

The 2027 Genesis GV90 is expected to become the new flagship of the Genesis lineup, sitting above both the GV80 and the G90. It will ride on Hyundai Group's new eM platform and is expected to feature dual electric motors powered by a battery of around 110 kWh. Genesis has also confirmed it's developing hybrid and extended-range electric models for the future, although this SUV will arrive as a fully electric model.

The competition won't be taking it easy on Genesis. The GV90 is heading into a segment filled with heavy hitters like the Range Rover Electric, BMW iX7, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, and several premium Chinese SUVs. That's a tough crowd to join. Still, if Genesis wanted people to remember its new flagship before they've even driven it, coach doors are a pretty memorable way to do it.
