Porsche Might Be About to Do Something Unexpected With the 911
by AutoExpert | 7 April, 2026
Porsche has circled April 14 for the reveal of a new 911, and for now, it’s keeping things deliberately vague. Just one teaser, not much else. Still, that hasn’t stopped the guesses.
The strongest theory right now points to something called the 911 GT3 Sport Cabriolet.

Officially, Porsche calls it a “particularly fun sports car from Zuffenhausen" and says it will debut in an “entertaining film” filmed in Tenerife. That location feels like a hint on its own. Sunshine, open roads… it does not exactly scream coupe.
Over on Rennlist, people have already connected the dots. The idea is a GT3-style setup, meaning a high-revving engine, likely a manual gearbox, paired with a soft top and a slightly different aero approach.
That alone is enough to split opinions. For some, a GT3 without a fixed roof feels wrong. For others, it makes perfect sense, almost like a modern Speedster without the usual limited-run drama and price tag.
Spy shots from earlier this year add fuel to the theory. A camouflaged 911 Cabriolet was spotted with a widebody stance that looked very close to the 2023 911 S/T. That car mixed the GT3 RS’s 4.0-liter engine with a six-speed manual and focused more on driving feel than outright lap times. If this new model follows a similar path, it could be something quite interesting.
The teaser itself does not give much away. You can just about make out the LED headlights, a sharper front bumper, and a clean rear end with no fixed wing. That last detail matters, because it hints at something less track-focused and more road-oriented.
The current 992.2 lineup is already packed. Carrera, S, 4S, GTS, Targa, Turbo, GT3, Touring - it covers almost every angle. But Porsche always finds room for one more niche, and this could be it.
We will not have to wait long. The full reveal is set for April 14 at 4:00 p.m. CEST. That should finally tell us if this is a bold new idea or just another clever twist on a formula Porsche knows very well.
