New Maserati Project GT4 Could Pack More Than 690 HP
by AutoExpert | 10 July, 2026
Maserati is taking the GranTurismo racing again, but this time it wants more drivers to get involved. Revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Project GT4 previews a customer race car that will enter competition in 2028. Maserati Corse says the goal is to build something fast and competitive but also manageable for private teams.
The concept starts with the facelifted GranTurismo, though the luxury coupe has been stripped of its road-car manners. A large front splitter, dive planes, and a big rear wing handle the aero work, while a ventilated quick-release hood makes life easier in the pits. Lightweight side windows, replaced rear quarter glass, and 18-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires help cut more weight. Maserati has also fitted a dedicated braking system with extra cooling.

Inside, almost everything related to comfort has disappeared. There's a compact steering wheel, a small digital display, and a redesigned center panel filled with race controls. A fire suppression button sits among the switches, while a roll cage, racing seat, and six-point harness make it clear this GranTurismo won't be spending much time outside a circuit.

Maserati hasn't revealed the final output yet. The GT4 uses the 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 with Formula 1-derived pre-chamber combustion technology. The engine is capable of producing more than 690 hp, though its race-spec figure remains a secret. The car also sheds around 882 lbs and gets adjustable dampers, anti-roll bars, and a race-tuned suspension based on the GranTurismo Trofeo.

Project GT4 will eventually be offered to a small group of customers, with racing planned to begin in 2028. Maserati wants it to be competitive, reliable, and easier for teams to run than more extreme race cars. The GranTurismo has always looked good in a paddock. Now we'll see if it can win there too.
